Young gardeners in bloom at Waycroft Academy

Preschool children at Waycroft Academy have been getting their hands delightfully muddy while taking part in a fun and educational planting activity.

The children spent time planting dahlia bulbs in pots around the academy grounds, bringing a splash of nature into their daily routine. The bulbs were kindly donated by the Friends of Waycroft after being won in a competition, giving pupils a special opportunity to take part in the project.

The young gardeners embraced the task with enthusiasm, carefully planting each bulb while enjoying the sensory experience of soil and teamwork. The activity not only sparked excitement but also helped nurture an early appreciation for nature and how things grow.

Over the coming weeks and months, the pupils will watch with anticipation as their dahlia bulbs begin to sprout and eventually bloom into bright, colourful flowers, providing a lasting reminder of their efforts.

A spokesperson said: “It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged and excited about planting.

“Activities like this help them learn about nature in a hands-on way, while also encouraging patience and care as they watch their flowers grow.

“We’re very grateful to the Friends of Waycroft for making this possible.”
