Waycroft pupils travel back in time for a Stone Age adventure

Year 6 pupils at Waycroft Academy enjoyed a fantastic Stone Age afternoon, bringing prehistoric Britain to life through a range of exciting, hands-on learning activities.

The Stone Age was a vast prehistoric period spanning millions of years, during which early humans used natural materials such as stone, bone and wood to create tools and weapons.

Pupils stepped back in time to explore how the enormous 20-tonne stones used to build Stonehenge may have been transported from West Wales to Wiltshire, discovering the ingenuity and teamwork that would have been needed to complete this remarkable prehistoric monument.

Working collaboratively, the children then put their creativity to the test by constructing their own Stonehenge models using biscuits, packed lunch boxes and dominoes.

The adventure continued as pupils made their own Stone Age spears before putting their hunting skills to the test in the playground, tracking imaginary mammoths, deer and rabbits.

A spokesperson for Waycroft Academy said: “The children had a fantastic afternoon bringing the Stone Age to life.

“It was wonderful to see them working together, using their imaginations and developing their understanding of how people lived thousands of years ago.

“The practical activities made learning fun and memorable, and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed becoming prehistoric hunters and monument builders for the afternoon.”

The fun-filled afternoon provided a memorable opportunity for Year 6 pupils to bring their history learning to life, developing their knowledge of prehistoric Britain through creativity, collaboration and plenty of enthusiasm.
