Waycroft pupils take part in magical quidditch tournament

Pupils at Waycroft Academy had to learn the rules of the fun and exciting game of quidditch for a thrilling Year 5 and Year 6 tournament.

The eagerly-anticipated tournament was supported by pupils from Ashton Park School, adding an extra level of excitement and community spirit to the event.

A big thank you to all the participants for their incredible teamwork and sportsmanship. Special applause to Fry House for emerging as the quidditch champions. And thank you to James from Ashton Park Schools Sports Partnership.

Quidditch, inspired by the beloved Harry Potter series, features seven players on each team: three chasers, two beaters, one keeper, and one seeker. The game is played with four balls – one quaffle, two bludgers, and the elusive golden snitch. Players aim to score goals by getting the quaffle through one of three hoops, earning ten points per goal. The game ends when the snitch is caught, awarding the seeker’s team 150 points.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Pupils have really embraced learning this unique sport.

“It’s been fantastic to see their teamwork, enthusiasm, and competitive spirit come to life as they prepare for the tournament.

“The event was a magical and memorable experience for all involved.”
